Halebidu located in Hassan district of the Indian state of Karnataka is an ancient capital of the Hoysala Kingdom. Hoysaleshwara Temple built in the 12th century by the King Vishnuvardhana is a major attraction in Halebidu. It is learnt that it took almost 105 yrs to complete the full temple. Later in the 14th century the Temple was ruined by the muslim invaders.

Belur & Halebidu temples form the jewel of architecture of Hoysalas. Halebidu has Hoysaleshwara Temple & Shantaleshwara Temple named after the King Vishnuvardhana Hoysala & Queen Shantala Devi. It also has other tempes like Kedareshwara Temple & Jain Basadis which are equially good & built around the same period. There is also a very big lake next to the Temple, hence the other name of Halebidu is Dwara Samudra (Entrance from the Sea/Ocean). The museum in Halebidu has a lot of collection of Hoysala architecture & carvings. This Temple along with Belur & Shravanabelagola are being proposed for the UNESCO world heritage center.

From Hassan its around 30 km (45 mins drive)
Belur - Halebidu is around 15 km (20 - 25 mins drive)
From Bengaluru its around 220 km (4 - 5 hrs drive) There are 2 routes from Bengaluru both are same distance.
Route1 : Bengaluru --NH4--> Nelmangala --NH48--> Kunigal --NH48--> Channarayapatna --NH48--> Hassan --> Halebidu
(Take a right in Hassan town on the Ring road, go till dead end & then take a right on Halebidu/Salgame Road)
Route2: Bengaluru --NH4--> Tumkur --NH206--> Tiptur --NH206--> Arasikere --NH206--> Banavara --NH234--> Javagal --NH234--> Halebeedu
From Mysore its around 150 km (3-4 hrs drive)
Route: Mysore --> Holenarasipura --> Hassan --> Halebeedu
