Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya (With Photos)

Masai Mara is known as Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserve, located in southwest Kenya. The first sight of this natural wonderland is breathtaking. The wildlife is abundant and the gentle rolling grasslands ensure that animals are never out of sight. Birds too are prolific. Including migrants, more than 450 species have been recorded, out of them, 57 species of birds of prey. Masai Mara Ecosystem holds one of the highest lion densities in world and this is where more than TWO MILLION Wildebeest, Zebra and Thomsons Gazelle migrate annually between July and October, during migration the sensation is unparalleled. Maasai Mara is one of the best plains' game reserves where you can actually encounter a live Discovery Channel, a haven for viewing a large group of all sorts of animals in a five-mile radius. Climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well-spread rainfall throughout the year. Rain mostly will be in evening or night.

A well worth it and recommended activity in the Maasai Mara National Reserve is the Balloon safari (It cost you around 400$ to 450$ per person). Early in the morning, you will be woken and driven to the departure site. Once in the air, the view of the surrounding landscape, the rising of the sun between the mountains and the congregation of the animals at the river is beautiful. This all concludes with a champagne breakfast ad memories of a lifetime.

Getting There:

The Masai Mara National Reserve lies about 270 kilometers from Nairobi and takes about 5 to 6 hours by road. There are scheduled flights, twice daily from Wilson Airport Nairobi, which take about 40 - 45 minutes. The pickup and drop facility form Airport/preferred location is arranged by the package provider.
